Cleaning After Renovation in Singapore: What to Expect

Cleaning after renovation means clearing the fine dust that building work leaves on every surface, so the home is ready to live in. It is done once, after your contractor has finished. This guide walks through the order our crew works in, what a standard clean covers and leaves out, and when doing it yourself is enough.
What is post-renovation cleaning?
Post-renovation cleaning is a one-off clean after building work ends, aimed at the fine dust that hacking, tiling, carpentry and painting leave behind. It is different from a routine clean because the dust reaches every room, including new built-in cabinets, window tracks and the tops of ledges and door frames, not only the floor.
Every company draws the line of what it covers in a slightly different place, so it is worth asking before you book. Ours is in the table further down and on our services page.
Is post-renovation cleaning necessary?
Not always. If the work was small, say one room repainted or a few fittings replaced, a careful vacuum and a damp wipe are often enough, and you may not need to hire anyone.
After a full renovation with hacking, tiling or new carpentry, it is a bigger job. Fine dust spreads to every room, settles inside cupboards and along window tracks, and can hang in the air long enough to land again after the first wipe, so some surfaces need more than one pass. That is usually when hiring a crew starts to make sense, mostly because of the time it takes.
How to clean after renovation: the order our crew works in
On a typical job, our crew clears the fine construction dust first, then cleans the built-in cabinets, the kitchen and bathrooms, and the windows and tracks. The floors are vacuumed and mopped last, and the job ends with a final check together with you.
Before the day, we ask how big your home is and what state it is in, and give you a clear quote. On the day, the crew arrives with its equipment and works through the home in this order:
- Remove the fine construction dust
- Clean the built-in cabinets
- Clean the kitchen and bathrooms
- Clean the windows and tracks
- Vacuum and mop the floors
- Do a final check with you
The floors come near the end for a simple reason that holds for any clean: dust wiped off cabinets, counters and windows ends up on the floor, so mopping earlier would mean mopping twice.
In the kitchen, the crew wipes the cabinets, the countertops and the sink, and the fridge, oven and microwave on the outside. Bathrooms and service areas get a standard surface clean and a preventive anti-mould spray. At the windows, the crew cleans the glass, frames, tracks and grilles. Floors are vacuumed and mopped, not scrubbed or polished.
The last step is a walkthrough with you. If any area that is part of our clean does not look right, the crew touches it up on the spot. Our room-by-room checklist shows what to look at while you walk around.
If you are cleaning it yourself
The same order works at home: dry dust first, then cabinets and wet areas, then windows, and the floors last. A few things make it easier:
- Open the windows and keep ceiling fans off while you dust
- Wear a dust mask and gloves
- Empty the vacuum often, because fine dust fills it quickly
- Change the mop water often
- Bag the grit instead of rinsing it down a floor trap
That last point matters in an HDB flat. HDB does not allow renovation debris to go down the refuse chute, the WC squat pan or a floor trap, and you pay for clearing any choke or repairing any damage that follows (HDB: important information on renovations). The rule is written about debris, but gritty mop water can block a trap the same way. Our guide on how to prepare your HDB for a post-renovation clean covers HDB's other renovation rules.
What renovation leaves behind, and what a standard clean deals with
A standard clean is built around fine dust: the film it leaves on the floors, the built-in cabinets, the kitchen and bathroom surfaces, and the windows and tracks.
Renovation can also leave harder marks. Our crew is trained to handle the fine dust, paint splashes and cement residue that come with renovation work, but removing some of these is booked separately as an add-on:
- Fine dust on floors, cabinets, wet areas and windows: part of the standard clean
- Paint splatter and sticker glue on windows: add-on
- Cement residue: add-on
- Dust on ceiling fans, lights and lamps: add-on
Upholstery cleaning and formaldehyde removal are add-ons too. If you want any of these, or you can see paint marks somewhere other than the windows, mention it when you book so we can include it in the quote.
Doing it yourself vs hiring a crew
Doing it yourself costs less in cash and works well after a small job. The costs are time and equipment: a vacuum that copes with fine dust, a stable ladder for high surfaces, and enough cloths and mop heads to keep changing them. It is also hard to fit around a move.
Hiring a crew takes the main clean off your hands while you deal with the rest of the move. It does not remove every task. A standard clean has limits, and whichever company you book, it is worth checking those limits before the day rather than after.
| Area | Doing it yourself | Our standard clean | Not in our standard clean |
|---|---|---|---|
| Floors | Vacuum, then mop; repeat if dust comes back | Vacuumed and mopped | Scrubbing or polishing |
| Cabinets and kitchen | Wipe cabinets, counters and the sink | Built-in cabinets cleaned; countertops and sink wiped; appliances on the outside only | Inside the fridge, oven or microwave; fume hood; backsplash deep cleaning; degreasing |
| Bathrooms and service areas | Wipe surfaces, mop, dry | Surfaces cleaned, plus a preventive anti-mould spray | Walls, grout cleaning, floor scrubbing, polishing fixtures and mirrors |
| Windows | Wipe glass, frames and tracks | Glass, frames, tracks and grilles cleaned | Paint splatter and sticker glue removal (add-on) |
| Bomb shelter, service yard, utility room, balcony | Clean like any other room | Included as part of the home, if the space is empty and the crew can get in | Spaces that are not empty or not accessible |
| Ceiling fans, lights, lamps | Wipe blades and covers | Not included | Available as an add-on |
| Walls | Dust or wipe as needed | Not cleaned | Wall cleaning |
Sanitising, disinfectant fogging and HEPA vacuuming are not part of our service. The full scope, with what each part includes, is on our services page.
Post-renovation cleaning vs regular housekeeping
A post-renovation crew and a regular housekeeper are booked for different jobs:
| Post-renovation clean | Regular housekeeping | |
|---|---|---|
| When | Once, after building work ends | Weekly or fortnightly, ongoing |
| What it deals with | Fine renovation dust across the whole home | Everyday dust and mess in a lived-in home |
| Typical state of the home | Empty or lightly furnished, before move-in | Furnished, in daily use |
The clean we offer is the one-off post-renovation kind described on this page. Once you have moved in, keeping the home clean week to week is a different kind of service.
How booking works
We suggest booking around a week and a half ahead, to be on the safe side. A late booking can still work: message us anyway, because when a slot happens to be free we can hold it for you as late as the day before.
There are two cleaning slots each day, a morning slot from 9am to 1pm and an afternoon slot from 2pm to 6pm. Our admin team answers messages every day from 9am to 10pm.
A $100 deposit normally holds your date. The rest is paid by PayNow or bank transfer once the clean is finished, before the crew leaves, and there is no travel surcharge anywhere in Singapore. These terms are also on our pricing page.
What it costs and how long it takes
Prices start at $250 for a 2-room HDB flat and $290 for a condo under 500 sqft, landed homes get a custom quote, and the full list is on our pricing page. A typical clean runs 3 to 6 hours with 1 to 3 cleaners on the job, depending on the home's condition, and larger homes can take up to 9 hours.
Common questions
Do you clean inside the fridge or oven?
No. We wipe the outside of the kitchen appliances, along with the cabinets, countertops and sink, but we do not clean inside the fridge, oven or microwave.
Is the bomb shelter or balcony included?
Yes. The bomb shelter, service yard, utility room and balcony are cleaned as part of the home, as long as each space is empty and the crew can get into it.
Are your cleaning products safe around children and pets?
Yes. The cleaning solution we use is safe around children, pets and food surfaces.
